Friedl/Samartzis/Vorfeld zu Gast bei müllmuzik
Friedl/Samartzis/Vorfeld comprises Berlin based musicians Reinhold Friedl and Michael Vorfeld and Melbourne sound artist Philip Samartzis. Using inside piano, prepared electric guitar, percussion, electronics, environmental sound and spatialisation, Friedl/Samartzis/Vorfeld investigates the intersection between acoustic and electronic sound to forge densities of space and texture. Friedl/Samartzis/Vorfeld formed in Berlin in 2006 and their debut CD will be published by Polish label Musica Genera in January 2009.

Reinhold Friedl Born in Baden-Baden, lives in Berlin. Studied piano in Stuttgart with Renate Werner and Paul Schwarz, in Berlin with Alan Marks and Alexander von Schlippenbach. Samartzis uses field recordings of natural and constructed environments as his primary material to render densities of space and discrete zones of aural experience, which are arranged and mixed to reflect the acoustic and spatial complexities of everyday sound fields. He has organized five Immersion festivals focusing on the theory and practice of sound spatialisation, as well as Variable Resistance, a series of international sound art presentations for the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Podewil Art Centre, Berlin.

Michael Vorfeld, musician and visual artist, based in Berlin, plays percussion and self designed stringed instruments. Besides his solo activities he is a member of various ensembles and collaborates with artists from different art forms.
His visual work concentrates mainly on the use of light in the form of installations and performances. He studied fine art in Cologne and Kassel and participated at the ’documenta 8’ with the sound performance group ’Heinrich Mucken’.
